This One Small Shift Will Help You Achieve Your Goals Quicker and Actually Enjoy the Process (From a Life Coach)

Ever wish it were easier to reach your goals or think to yourself, “Ugh, I’ll never reach this goal in life”?
What we think about what we see is what we face. It’s a matter of perception. One person can look at a certain thing like, “Wow, this is easy.” Another person can look at that same exact thing and think, “Ugh, this is the hardest thing ever.”
Why is that?
We have the tendency to look at things a certain way based on our conditioning. We can see things with a negative filter if that is what we experienced growing up or in our current environment. Our perspective is a powerful tool.
We have the tendency to look at things a certain way based on our conditioning.
How do you look at goals in life? As challenges or opportunities? Do you see a mountain, or do you see just a bunch of added steps in the right direction?
Sadly, most look through the lens of fear, intimidation, and overwhelm. What does this do? It limits our ability to go after what really matters. Whether that be a goal, desire, or even getting onto your yoga mat.
If you want to reach your goals in life, you must shift the way you look at these goals (and the inevitable challenges along the way).
How do you look at goals in life? As challenges or opportunities?
We all have this tendency to build up this thing we want as much larger and harder than it really is. What we must do is begin to shift our perspective.
And that doesn’t mean lying to ourselves. It simply means reframing how we look at our goals in life. If we chop it up and break it down to what it actually is, it naturally looks smaller than our minds make it seem.
If we remove subjectivity, and look at this particular thing objectively, suddenly it appears much more accomplishable and manageable. This is the definition of creating a smart goal.
Here’s an example:
Say you want to write a book. You would have to create a plot, characters, and storyline, then find a publisher, an editor, AND find time to write every single day!
Sounds like a lot, right?
What if you shifted your perspective? Said to yourself, this is all easily accomplishable and I just need to break it down step by step. What is the first thing that must be done? Maybe for you it’s writing. So knock out one paragraph a day. Just writing, freeform.
You just made a smart goal, because you broke it down into manageable steps, which allowed you to shift your mindset around that goal and how you’ll get there.
Feel better already?
It really is a matter of how we view things that can either enable or prevent us from getting to where we want to be.
How can we shift our perspective elsewhere?
So glad you asked . . .
How to Shift Your Perspective and Reach Your Goals
First, find some awareness as to what that voice in your head is telling you daily (particularly in the context of your goals in life). Take note of that, even for just 24 hours. Is it predominantly positive? Or is it this constant negativity of you can never do this?
Next, for every negative thought or filter you experience, write a sentence counteracting that with what is reality or what is the opposite.
Often it is our own thoughts, emotions, and mindset that stop us in our tracks from reaching high for that seemingly unattainable goal.
For example, let’s pretend you have a nagging thought telling you that you can never write a book. Flip the script! Say instead: I will write a book! I can write a book! I’ve written thousands of notes, papers, emails and even text messages in my day!
Sound funny? Well, believe it or not, it works. The reality is any single one of us can write a book, if that is what we really want.
Often it is our own thoughts, emotions, and mindset that stop us in our tracks from reaching high for that seemingly unattainable goal.
Our mindset is the most powerful tool we have. Just like the Law of Attraction, what we think, we attract. What we constantly condition our minds to think, will directly come out in our action or inaction. So why not make it positive and affirming of what we truly want?!
