If you found yourself trying to unsuccessfully defend your point of view or being shamed for your expression, you may benefit from throat chakra healing.
In yoga, there is a metaphysical concept of energy centers (chakras – more on that below) in every human being. These exist in the person’s astral body and the physical body has glands which correspond with these energy centers.
So, how does healing one energy center – such as the throat chakra – relate to trauma? Well, have you ever noticed how you might be over defensive and over talkative or shut down and communication avoidant in a bad relationship? This could be tied to your throat chakra and healing this energy center can empower you to more clear and honest self-expression.
Read on to learn about the chakra system, what happens when the Throat Chakra is balanced and imbalanced, how toxic and traumatic experiences impact our Throat Chakra, and 10 ways to create throat chakra healing.

First, What Are Chakras?
There are different systems of chakras, but the one most referenced to is the seven chakra system. This starts from the Root Chakra and goes all the way up to the Crown Chakra.
The Throat Chakra (which is the fifth energy center) is the beginning of a human’s journey toward their divine self.
The energies of the First and Second Chakras represent the animalistic tendencies of humans. The energies of Third and Fourth Chakras represent the human tendencies of humans. And the energies of the Fifth Chakra onward represent the divine tendencies of humans.
The Throat Chakra is the beginning of a human’s journey toward their divine self.
The Throat Chakra (Vishuddha Chakra) is the fifth major energy center of the human energy body. It is the center that controls the energies that we use to express ourselves. This center controls communication and also creativity.
Once the human energies are expressed clearly in the Throat Chakra, we become more beautiful: Beautiful in the way we look, the way we speak, and the way we listen. Most singers and orators have this center very well balanced.

What Happens When the Throat Chakra Is Balanced?
When the Throat Chakra is balanced, we experience all of the following:
1. Personal Expression
Expressing becomes easy and direct. In particular, our ability to express our self-truth, to speak out against injustice, and empowerment becomes possible.
2. Communication
All communication becomes clear and concise . . . whether it’s verbal or nonverbal (such as gestures and body language). Also, external communication with others and internal dialogue with oneself becomes clear when you have true Throat Chakra healing.
3. Etheric Communications
Connection with the etheric realm (the more subtle realms of spirit) and intuitive abilities open up. Clairaudience becomes a possibility.
4. Creativity
Creativity flourishes. Projecting ideas and blueprints into reality becomes possible at a quicker pace.
5. Purpose
Throat Chakra healing and balance makes one realize their purpose and vocation.
6. Timing
It also creates a good (divine) sense of timing for many things that the person does or says.

What Happens When the Throat Chakra Is Imbalanced?
When the Throat Chakra is imbalanced, we experience one or both of the following:
1. Overflowing Throat Chakra
- Lack of control over one’s speech: speaking too much or inappropriately
- Not being able to listen to others
- Not being able to keep secrets or to keep your word
- Telling lies
- Gossiping
2. Underflowing Throat Chakra
- Excessive secretiveness or shyness
- Excessive fear of speaking
- Small, imperceptible voice
- Lack of connection with a purpose in life
How Does Throat Chakra Healing Relate to Trauma?
As mentioned, it’s likely you’ve been in some sort of a toxic situation at some point. Prolonged toxic situations can have a big impact on our well-being, including our ability to self-express. If there was a time where you were trying to unsuccessfully defend your point of view, the following things could have happened…
Fluctuating Throat Chakra Flow
You might have defended yourself by doing a whole lot of explaining and dissecting of your side of the argument. However, this being a toxic situation, clear communication might not have happened and you might have given up communication at some point.
This situation shows us overflow of the Throat Chakra energies then followed by underflow.
Throat Chakra Underflow
Realizing the toxic situation, you might have given up trying to make sense of it. You might have given up explaining and communicating. It might have become a one-way communication street with the difficult person in the situation. This shows us an underflow of Throat Chakra energy.
Moreover, when a person stays in a toxic situation for a long time, due to the negativity surrounding it, the person’s thoughts might also become negative.
As a person vibrates on these low frequencies, the person might – in turn – attract similar toxic situations. This might further cause them to stop speaking and expressing themselves by creating a negative world view.
They might start fearing “bad luck.” In reality, this is nothing but circumstances created by negative and fear-based thinking. This might cause them to stop trusting and become extra secretive of their life goals. Thus causing an even greater underflow of the Throat Chakra.
Throat Chakra Overflow
Some folks in this situation might go completely the other route and might start talking incessantly – trying to explain themselves and validate how they are feeling. Then they might continue this behavior not just in the toxic situation, but even otherwise.
This causes a continuous overflow of the Throat Chakra, further resulting in more opportunities to gossip.
Thus, the Throat Chakra takes a big hit once a human has been in a difficult situation for too long. To avoid further damage and unwanted behavior changes, one should try to consciously activate Throat Chakra healing.
So, Here Are 10 Ways to Create Throat Chakra Healing:
To heal and balance the Throat Chakra, any of the following tips are an effective way to open, balance, and ultimately bring total Throat Chakra healing . . .
1. Sing
Singing helps heal the Throat Chakra. Singing mantras is even better.
2. Express Yourself
Express all your feelings. This can be by speaking them out loud when you are alone or writing them down.
3. Make Sounds
Another way is to laugh, scream, yell, and even cough it out. If you are not feeling this, you can simply try to simulate laughs, screams, yells, and coughs.
4. Speak Your Truth
Try not to lie to yourself. If you are angry, tell yourself: “I am angry.” If you don’t feel like doing a certain thing, tell yourself truthfully that “I don’t feel like doing so and so” instead of making some other excuses.
Being true to oneself is really the aim of Throat Chakra healing. Once the self-truth process starts, all other balancing aspects will take care of themselves.
5. Don’t Lie
Also, try not to lie to others. This is a good practice of diplomacy: maintaining the balance of speaking your truth but not hurting others.
6. Practice Silence
Sitting in silence is also helpful even though it might seem contradictory. It can really help an overflowing Throat Chakra. Silence for two hours each waking day is a good place to start.
7. Practice Yoga
There are many Throat Chakra healing and balancing exercises recommended in yoga. These are also very helpful. Lion’s Pose is especially helpful.
8. Adopt Good Posture
Keeping your shoulders relaxed and sitting up straight is also helpful for balancing the Throat Chakra.
9. Use Aromatherapy
You can also try aromatherapy with lavender, mints, chamomile, and/or cypress. These aromas can help to bring Throat Chakra healing.
10. Use Colors
The Throat Chakra is represented by the color blue, so wearing blue or watching the color blue can also be helpful.

Having been in many traumatic situations and having had my Throat Chakra completely closed, I can definitely assure you that these ways of healing have helped me get “my voice back” tremendously. I hope these tips help you if you find yourself at the tail end of a difficult or traumatic situation.
