What is the Throat Chakra?

The Throat Chakra, also known as the Vishuddha Chakra, is the fifth energy center located between the collarbones and the larynx in the neck.

There are seven major chakras in the internal system of the human body that align the flow of our prana (energy). If one of the Chakras is imbalanced, it can cause illness or disease.

Yoga, meditation and mantras can assist with chakra imbalances and blockages.

The Throat Chakra is associated with our ability to speak our truth and be authentic.

Here are a few characteristics of the fifth Chakra:

  • Color: turquoise
  • Crystals: blue topaz and yellow topaz
  • Earthly location: Italy
  • Spiritual action: security
  • Key Issues: self-expression, communication, and will
  • Inner aspect: expression
  • Endocrine gland: thyroid
  • Physical action: communication

Throat Chakra Balance and Imbalance

The Throat Chakra is connected to our will power. When it’s balanced, you feel more invigorated, speak your truth, take risks, and express yourself like never before. As the Throat Chakra comes into alignment, you develop creativity and character.

When the Throat Chakra is imbalanced it affects the thyroid system, which can lead to hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism. Also, exhaustion and lethargy can occur. Digestive and weight problems may fluctuate and be affected by this imbalance as well.

Beyond all of this, you can also develop a sore throat or neck pain as a result of a blocked Throat Chakra.

Mantras are the gateway to clearing up energy blockages in the body. By singing Throat Chakra mantras, one can effectively alter blockages found in this area to create Throat Chakra healing.
