How to Apply Deepak Chopra’s 7 Spiritual Laws of Success to Your Life

Dr. Deepak Chopra is easily one of today’s most prolific teachers in consciousness-based medicine and mindful living.
Chopra has published many successful books on alternative medicine and mindful thinking, but it is The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success: A Practice Guide to the Fulfillment of Your Dreams that we will focus on for this article. This popular book has been a guide for many people seeking ways to fulfill their deepest desires.
In The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, Chopra has created a guide on how to bring ourselves into union with the powerful forces of the Universe. These Seven Spiritual Laws can be adapted to suit many different aspects of modern living to all the different stages of life.
With this guide, Dr. Chopra has created a weekly program that is simple and easy to follow. In it, Chopra provides a daily “law” and mantra to focus on each day. This is a great framework for learning and assimilating the laws into your daily life. But these laws are universal, so every day may bring different gifts of understanding.

Yogic thought encourages us to see the macrocosm of the Universe within our microcosmic self and to bring this into unity

Utilize the mantras that accompany each law while doing your daily meditations, yoga practice or pranayama. This will help you find your own path and interpretations of how these laws can work for you.

Here are Chopra’s Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, along with how to apply them to your life:

Monday: The Law of Giving

The Law of Giving invites you to focus on the many ways you give and receive. This Law also invites you to notice your intention behind giving and receiving. Do you feel worthy of receiving blessings from others? Do you give to others simply to feed your ego? Do you use giving as a form of manipulation?

The Universe operates by balance

Focusing on your intention for giving and receiving may help you become aware of how the Universe is balancing the positive and negative energy, things, and people that flow into your life. The Universe operates by balance, and there is a constant exchange going on to maintain this balance. Just notice your breath – just as you breathe in, you must breathe out. All aspects of life operate this way.
Being aware of the exchange of giving and receiving, and how you view both actions will determine the balance within your life.
Accompanying Mantra:
OM VARDHANAM NAMAH: I am the nourisher of the Universe, the Universe nourishes me

Tuesday: The Law of Karma

The Law of Karma encourages you to become more aware of the consequences of your actions and thoughts. When focusing on this Law, begin to consider the results of every action you make – everything that happens has an equal and opposite reaction.
Also, this Law calls you to look at your past. What choices have you made that have led to your current circumstances? Look at the results and actions of your life. This could be a great lesson about the intention behind your actions and how those intentions led you to where you are now.
Accompanying Mantra:
OM KRIYAM NAMAH: My actions are aligned with cosmic law

Wednesday: The Law of Least Effort

The Law of Least Effort asks you to let things go. This Law highlights the fact that when something happens in the Universe, it just happens. When it comes to this Law, try to understand the easiness of the Universe and let go of any desired outcomes.
With this Law, we must get more in tune with the part of the Universe that handles all the details. Trust the Universe to act appropriately with simple or more complicated aspects of your life. By understanding the Universe is working for us, we can reach a greater sense of effortlessness in our actions and pursuits.
Accompanying Mantra:
OM DAKSHAM NAMAH: My actions achieve maximum benefit with minimal effort

Thursday: The Law of Intentions and Desires

The Law of Intentions and Desires encourages us to be mindful of our intentions and have a clear purpose when we set them. When it comes down to it, the Universe is here to help your true Self expand and grow. The Universe will ultimately give you what you want, but it may happen in an unexpected way.
For example, your intention may be to find more joy in your life, and since the power to produce joy is within yourself, the Universe may give you more suffering to help you discover your inner joy and self-empowerment. Even if the road to joy is a difficult one, if you focus on your intention, you will more easily be able to see the newfound joy in your life.

The Universe will ultimately give you what you want, but it may happen in an unexpected way

However, if you are not aware of your own power and intent, you may not see joy so clearly and believe the Universe is not providing your desire. By focusing on your intention, you’re focusing on your own ability to create. You can have anything that you want in this world, but it is up to you to intend it from the right mindstate.
Accompanying Mantra:
OM RITAM NAMAH: My intentions and desires are supported by cosmic intelligence

Friday: The Law of Detachment

The Law of Detachment asks you to let go and trust the Universal intelligence. If you want something in life, set the intention and then let go of the desire and outcome. This is easier said than done for most people, and it is certainly a skill gained from practice.
Detachment is all about awareness of the present moment – being still within yourself, knowing your own peace and the detaching from any outcomes. Knowing there is an intelligence that is greater than your personal mind orchestrating your life will help you let go of worry.
Living the Law of Detachment is living from a place of spontaneity and creativity rather than believing that everything must be thought out and perfectly orchestrated. Trust that things have a way of working out. Release and let go.
Accompanying Mantra:
OM ANANDHAM NAMAH: My actions are blissfully free from attachment to outcome

Saturday: The Law of Dharma

The Law of Dharma helps you come into a greater awareness of your life purpose and living within your dharma. Once your life purpose is fulfilled, it creates support and good karma for your life.
As any creative person would know, you can’t express yourself fully when you’re worried about perfection. Your dharma is ultimately the Universe’s creative expression through you. It’s up to you to look within, to find your personal highest Self and allow it to flow through your life.
Find out who you are, and live your truth. Give yourself time for self-reflection and introspection, and you will undoubtedly find your dharma.

Accompanying Mantra:
OM VARUNAM NAMAH: My life is in harmony with cosmic law

Sunday: The Law of Pure Potentiality

The Law of Pure Potentiality deals with the power of potential that we all possess. The Universe is full of possibility and it’s constantly expanding. This means that you, as an expression of the Universe, do not have any limits.
As a constantly expanding and growing being, tune into this Law by realizing that you are pure awareness. Release yourself of any rigidity or concrete definitions of who you are or what you believe, and embrace the potential of the unknown.
What decision can you make today that would impact your life or take you in a new direction? What are you capable of? How much are you willing to grow? This Law asks how you can grow, and to give awareness to your own limitlessness.
Accompanying mantra:
OM BHAVAM NAMAH: I am absolute existence
If you find these Laws helpful and would like to learn more, check out Chopra’s, The Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga with Dr. David Simon, or The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success. Both writings utilize these same Laws, although they carry slightly different breakdowns of their meanings.
Keep in mind that these are my personal interpretations of the seven Laws. I claim no intellectual authority over them, as they have been given to us in this format by Dr. Chopra and ultimately belong to the Universe.
No matter how random it may seem at times, our Universe operates according to many laws. These are inherent truths that run throughout creation. Yogic thought encourages us to see the macrocosm of the Universe within our microcosmic self and to bring this into unity.
